At a local level branches are run by volunteers in their own time.  All volunteers are parents who work to provide a wide range of services.  Whether you're having the time of your life or finding the baby hard work, The NCT has something to offer you.

Membership

All of the services offered by the NCT are open to members and non members alike.  However, we encourage people to join us as, without our members, we would not be able to continue to offer the current range of support and information to new parents.

Antenatal Classes

Trained antenatal teachers provide courses to small groups of pregnant women and couples.  You learn all about the different aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and early parenthood and get to meet other expectant parents who live locally.  Contact Leigh on 0844 6851 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Breastfeeding Counsellors

Breastfeeding Counsellors are mothers who have breastfed their own babies, and work alongside health professionals to support the breastfeeding mother.  They have been trained by the NCT to teach in antenatal classes and to help and support mothers in avoiding braestfeeding problems and in establishing and continuing to breastfeed for as long as each mother and her baby wish to do so.  All conversations with a counsellor are confidential and counsellors are available to all mothers.  NCT Breastfeeding Line 0300 330 0771

Speed Bumps

This is an informal evening event, held every 3 months, for parents-to-be.  It is free to attend. It is an opportunity to meet other parents with babies due around the same time, meet your local NCT branch committee (including those who can provide services/support in the early days after you have given birth) and other local providers who have something to offer new/expectant parents.  Call Leigh on 0870 112 8898 for more information and the date of the next meeting.

Bumps and Babies

This is an informal group open to all mums-to-be and new parents.  Toys and refreshments are provided.  The group meet every Monday (except Bank Holidays) and Tuesday from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon in the Community Room, in St. Cuthbert's Church, North End, Durham.   Bumps and Babies meetings cost £1 per session. Twins/Multiple Births Club

If you expecting or already have twins/multiples, and would like to meet other parents just like you, the Twins/Multiple Births Club meet every Monday morning 9.30 am to 11.30 noon in St. John's Church Centre, Nevilles Cross, Durham.  Contact Liz on 07549850248

Caesarean Baby Group

Home Birth Group

For parents considering or planning a home to share experiences, information and support.  Meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 8pm.  Please contact the branch for further details.

NCT Bras

A trained bra volunteer offers a free fitting and sales service for maternity/feeding bras by appointment.  For further information please contact the branch.

Breastpumps

Electric pumps are available to hire from our local NCT breastpump agent.  For more information contact the branch.

Valley Cushions

Valley cushions are specially designed cushions to ease the pain and discomfort following childbirth and are available for hire.  Please contact the branch for further details.

Nearly New Sales

Twice a year, in the Spring and Autumn, we hold our popular Nearly New Sales where you can buy or sell children and baby toys, clothes, nursery equipment and maternity clothes.  Contact the branch for further details.

This website is provided for the use of all who require information, support and friendship from the point of considering pregnancy through pregnancy, birth and beyond into parenthood.

The use of the web site is provided for free and you do not have to register with the site or be a member of the NCT to access any of the information provided.  We do however recommend that you at least register with the site so that we can send you our regular newsletter and events update.
