Week 29

Baby is busy getting ready for her birthday!

She is beginning to regulate her own temperature and the bone marrow is completely in charge of production of red blood cells. She is even urinating about half a litre of urine into the amniotic fluid everyday! (Nice thought)

The athletic movements that mummy has been able to feel will probably begin to change at this point. Up until now baby has been partying like a teenager left alone in the house with her parents away but now, as the space becomes cramped, she will produce only smaller movements, such as the jabbing of elbows and knees.

* Baby’s head is in proportion with her body now. She appears more like a newborn each and every day.
* Fat continues to accumulate under the skin.
* Her brain can control primitive breathing and body temperatures.
* Her eyes can move in their sockets. Soon she will be able to follow a blinking light.
* Baby is increasingly sensitive to changes in light, sound, taste, and smell. Various studies show that a baby may indicate preferences (or disdain) for particular tastes or odours at this stage.
(What can she smell in the womb? Don’t answer that)

  • She is also moving from side to side, but probably still is head up. In the next few weeks, she will move to the head down birthing position.

  • Her length is now approximately 15.2 inches (38.6cm) and weight is 2.54 pounds (1153gm)
